Is this REALLY a sheltie?
Once upon a time, someone asked me how long it would take for their pup to grow a coat. Another party looked over my shoulder at the photo of the sparsely coated, gangly adolescent pup and said with authority, "That's a MUTT! It's not a pure bred sheltie!" then walked away. Too bad that person never got to see that puppy grow up. He eventually finished his championship. Unfortunately, I don't have pictures of that pup/dog, but a few kind fellow sheltie enthusiasts have generously shared their links and photos with me to show anyone who questions the pureness of their pup during the uglies, or who wants to learn about how some pups develop.
Puffin as a pup
This pair of images is thanks to Ann Finer of CT. Thanks Ann and Puffin!
Ann says:
Jennifer, my Puffin was not a show dog, but came from show dog lines, bred by Herb and Kay Searle. He was Valdawn's Good As Gold II (Valdawn's Shenanigans x CH Valdawn's Star Attraction). He definitely went through the uglies! First pic is about 5 months, second pic is about 3 years.

These links are provided as well for you to follow the growth of some nice dogs, and to show you that even the best dogs go through that, "Why am I growing this pup out?!?" stage.
